Dr. Delena Kay Johnson-Flakes, Psy.D.

Dr. Delena Kay Flakes is a self-published author, motivational and
inspirational speaker, and minister. She is currently employed as
the Director of Security at the Al Price State Juvenile Correctional
Facility in Beaumont, Texas. She has been employed in the State
Correctional system for over 15 years. During her employment,
she has worked in several different positions, on facilities
ranging from youthful first offenders, to habitual offenders, to
violent and death row offenders.
Dr. Flakes began her speaking career in 1993, shortly after
accepting her call to the ministry. From the birth of her ministry to
the present, she has spread the Gospel whenever given the
opportunity, has taught numerous Bible classes and workshops,
including college level courses. Dr. Flakes has spoken to many
women’s groups, she has made presentations to general
audiences, city officials and civic organizations, and she has
presented motivational workshops for at risk youth. Throughout
her speaking career, she has also volunteered in the area of
Prison Ministry.
She began writing in 2002 as a way to minister to those who are
hurting, the habitually bad decision maker, the family, and to
individuals who just want more out of life. Currently, she has
written and self-published a total of 6 books.
Dr. Flakes received her first Bachelors in the area of Criminology
and Corrections from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville
Texas, in 1987. She later obtained her second Bachelors in
Theology at the Triumph Bible Institute in Nederland, Texas. From
there, the obtained her Masters in Theology and her Doctorate in
Scriptural Psychology from Midwest Theological Seminary in
Sikeston, Missouri in May of 2003. She has been licensed as a
Minister of the Gospel and certified as an Evangelist. She has
been trained in the areas of Cultural Diversity, Basic Management,
and First Level Management skills.
In addition to her experience with the prison system and writing,
Dr. Flakes is an experienced motivational and inspirational
speaker, workshop coordinator for women and for youth, and
Bible College instructor. She has been the keynote speaker for
women’s groups, youth organizations and civic organizations.
Dr. Flakes currently resides in Port Arthur, Texas with her
husband and their children. She is a member in good standing at
the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, also in Port Arthur, Texas,
where Rev. Randy G. Vaughn is the pastor.
